“New” JLPT 2010 Application is Open till Sep. 30

 
 

From this year, JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) has been revised and will be held in 5 different levels.
It has been told that there is a big gap of proficiency between Level 2 and Level 3 of the old test. In order to fill this gap, new JLPT prepares one more level (N3) between these two levels so that people who passed Level 3 (N4 in the new test) can feel positive to challenge the next level. N1 and N2 are the same level as level 1 & 2 of the old test. N4 is same as level 3 and N5 is same as level 4.
There are some other changes in such as how pass or fail is determined. For more details and application procedure, please read this.

The first edition of the “Basic Japanese – Arabic Dictionary” has been released, as one of the projects of The Japan Foundation’s Program for Translating Japanese Books into Arabic and Distributing them, in cooperation with a distinguished and inveterate Egyptian publishing press; Dar El-Shorouk.

A series of lectures on the Japanese Economy were given at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science(FEPS), Cairo University from 25th to 27th February, 2008.
 
Dr. Akira KOHSAKA, Professor of Economics at Osaka School of International Public Policy, Osaka University, Japan, was dispatched by The Japan Foundation with a challenging goal of providing the students of FEPS with a good opportunity to get to know about the Japanese Economy.
Titles of the lectures were as follows:
  • Whither the Japanese Economy: Macroeconomic Developments (Mon. 25 Feb.)
  • The Global Imbalance and East Asia (Tues. 26 Feb.)
  • Aging and Economic Growth (Wed. 27 Feb.)
  •  
    Furthermore, a seminar on the Japanese Economy was held in cooperation with The Center for Asian Studies and The Japan Foundation Cairo Office, on 26th February. In the seminar chaired by Dr. Gaber Awad, Director of the Center, Dr. KOHSAKA gave a lecture titled "The Japanese Economy: Trade and Investment".
     
    The lectures and the seminar were attended by more than 450 people by the gross, which were students, researchers and professors from all the faculty's departments.

    Japanese Drama on Egyptian TV: “The Sensitive Samurai”
    A sensational and eventful drama, about a kind-hearted and courageous swordsman samurai, who gets involved in a series of exciting adventures. This series was broadcasted by NHK for the first time in Japan in 1992, where it gained a great popularity not only among the Japanese viewers, but also in other foreign countries.
    “The Sensitive Samurai” will start on Wed. 18th July 2007 at 4:00p.m. on Channel 2, and it will run everyday except Thursday and Friday.

      The Japanese language course is now available in Alexandria. The course will be held by The Japan Foundation Cairo Office in cooperation with The Honorary Consulate of Japan in Alexandria.

    The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) 2006
      Eligibility: non-native speakers of Japanese.
    Date: 3rd December (Sun.), 2006
    Venue: Cairo ( to be informed after registration)
    Application Deadline: 28th September (Thu)

    Our Working Hours during the Month of Ramadan, from 24th September 2006 to 22ed October 2006:
      Office: 8:30-14:30 & Library: 10:00-14:00 (Fridays & Saturdays are off).
    However, we are still accepting application forms for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) 2006: from 8:30 to 17:30 during working days.
    Japanese Flower Arrangement Course: the application level (advanced level) course.
      *Those who have completed two beginner's courses can apply for this course.
    Date: 6th November – 4th December 2006, every Mondays, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
    Venue: The Library of the Japan Foundation Cairo Office
    Quota: 20 students (on a first-come-first-serve basis).
    Registration will start on 29th October 2006.
    Fees: 150.00 LE

    The Japan Foundation Cairo Office now has a new director Mr. Kazuhiro Fukuda.
      He took over from Mr. Junichi Shimizu on 3rd May 2006..
    Arabic Translations of Four Japanese Children’s Books are now available (from June 2006).
      These books were published by an Egyptian publisher, Dar El-Shorouq, under a special programme for Arabic translation and publication of Japanese books. The programme is being conducted by the Japan Foundation in collaboration with Dar El-Shorouq and the Association for 100 Japanese books. Two of the new books are folktales: Little Fingerling (20.00 LE) and Magic Drum (19.00 LE); the other two are popular modern picture books: Where is the Fish? (17.00 LE) and Friends (17.00 LE).

    2006 Autumn Semester of the Japanese Language Courses will be from 22nd August – 30th November
      Application Period: 13th July - 10th August
    Placement Test: 10th August.
    (JLPT Level 1 Preparatory Course will not be held this semester.)
