The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) will be held both in Japan and Overseas (160cities in 51 nations and areas) to evaluate and certify the proficiency in Japanese. The Japan Foundation Cairo Office has administered the JLPT in the Middle East and Africa since 1998.
1. Eligibility: non-native speaker of Japanese.
2. Test date: December 7th (Sunday), 2008
3. Test site Cairo, Egypt (venues will be informed to applicants after registration)
4. Contents of the test: There are four different levels. The contents and criteria of the test are as follows;

1 Writing-Vocabulary  45 min. 100 points The examinee has mastered grammar to a high level, knows around 2.000 Kanji and 10.000 words, and has an integrated command of the language sufficient for life in Japanese society. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 900hours.

Reading-Grammar  90 min. 200 points
Total 180 min. 400 points
2 Writing-Vocabulary  35 min. 100 points The examinee has mastered grammar to a relatively high level, knows around 1.000 Kanji and 6.000 words, and has the ability to converse, read and write about matters of a general nature. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 600hours and after completion of an intermediate course.

Reading-Grammar  70 min. 200 points
Total 145min. 400 points
3 Writing-Vocabulary  35 min. 100 points The examinee has mastered grammar to a limited level, knows around 300 Kanji and 1.500 words, and has the ability to take part in everyday conversation and to read and write simple sentences. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 300hours and after completion of an elementary course.

Total 140 min. 400 points
4 Writing-Vocabulary  25 min. 100 points The examinee has mastered the basic elements of grammar, knows around 100 Kanji and 800 words, and has the ability to engage in simple conversation and to read and write short, simple sentences. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 150 hours and after completion of the first half of an elementary course.

5. Test Fees: Level 1 - £E120 / Level 2 - £E 100 / Level 3 - £E 80 / Level 4 - £E 60
6. Application Procedure:
  - All Overseas applicants may subscribe JLPT by mail or e-mail.
- An applicant must send us the completed application form and two recent photographs for verification.
- The price of a prescribed form is £E 5 (each form).
7. Application Period:
  August 3rd (Sunday), 2008 – September 25th (Thursday), 2008.
8. Approximate Scoring Standard:
  The passing mark is usually set at 70% or higher of the highest possible score for Level 1, and 60% or higher for Levels 2, 3, 4. It may be adjusted downward.
9. Announcement of Test Results
  - All examinees in each Level will receive their score reports.
- Successful examinees in each Level will receive their Certificates of Proficiency.
- Certificates of Proficiency and official test results will be distributed in the beginning of March 2009.
10. Mail Service: Delivery of Test Results is available through Mail or Courier Companies. This service is on the examinee’s expenses; £E150.
11. The application fee, test fee and mailing costs may be paid at the test site on the day of the test.
